QUESTIONS ANSWERED

What is Reiki?

Reiki is a gentle energy healing modality from Japan that is used world-wide in hospitals, cancer centers, and private practices to support health and promote healing.

Supportive Reiki energy (also described as universal lifeforce energy) helps reduce stress, induce relaxation and promote balance, allowing the body’s natural self-healing mechanism to kick in. This makes Reiki a natural adjunct to medical treatment or part of a healthy lifestyle.

Reiki works on the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual levels to improve health and enhance the quality of life

By releasing blocks and opening up your energy pathways, Reiki treatment brings about deep healing. As you clear blocks and release unexpressed pain, trauma, or dysfunction you naturally find more vitality, peace and harmony inside yourself. This shift is life changing!

But don't just take my word for it...

Check out this article by Reiki practitioner and teacher Pamela Miles on how Reiki works for an excellent overview of the benefits of Reiki and how it helps us heal. And have a look at this research trial which found " a single session of Reiki improves multiple variables related to physical and psychological health" or this study that indicates Reiki is better than placebo and "is a safe and gentle “complementary” therapy that activates the parasympathetic nervous system to heal body and mind."

Here is what the Mayo Clinic, Dana-Farber/Harvard Cancer Center, The Cleveland Clinic, and Yale New Haven Hospital have to say about Reiki services at their hospitals. Some other hospitals in the US that offer Reiki adjunct treatments include: Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, NY-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia, Abramson Cancer Center of the University of Pennsylvania, Johns Hopkins Hospital and Health System, George Washington University Hospital, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, California Pacific Medical Center.

What's so intuitive about it?

As a natural Intuitive, I pick up information about the world and people through sensation, thought, feelings or knowing. It's a bit like picking up on the nuance of body language or being tuned to the right station to receive specific radio waves. With your permission, just before and during your session I check in with your energy and ask for the most pertinent messages to share with you. It's this intuitive guidance and information that steers the session for your highest healing.

What happens during a session?

During a Reiki session the practitioner acts as a conduit for the Reiki energy and directs it through her hands into your body.

You may feel energy moving or sensations in your body, you might experience emotions, thoughts and images or you may fall asleep. It’s all good!  Often people experience a deep state of relaxation, reduced pain and discomfort, and increased emotional well being during and after a Reiki session.

As an intuitive Reiki practitioner, I often receive intuitive information about what is going on with you physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and energetically. With your permission, I share this information or messages, answer your questions,  and provide guidance to bring about the most healing for you and serve your highest good. This is part of the magic of this work and is such a special experience every time!

What is the difference between an in person and a remote session?

The only difference between remote and in-person sessions is the location. Yep, that's it. If you like being face-to-face, in-person fits. But if you live somewhere else or just prefer the comfort of your own home, a distance session is what you're looking for. Otherwise, there is no difference in the beneficial effects of healing Reiki energy. Since everything is energy and I direct Reiki to you specifically during a session, it doesn't matter how near or far we are physically. It's wild, but it's like your phone; it just works!

During an in-person Reiki session you will lie fully clothed on a massage table in a comfortable position and I will give you Reiki by holding my hands above you in various positions

During a remote or distance Reiki session we will use Zoom or a video chat application (or phone call). You can lie down in a comfortable place and I will guide you through the session sending Reiki to you while you relax in your home.

What about Reiki for my pets and animals?

Animals benefit from Reiki too! A Reiki session for your pet can reduce stress, anxiety and pain, encourage healing and improve behavior. Check out this article about animal Reiki from the American Kennel Club

I recommend remote Reiki for animals, as it allows me to work on the animal without interruptions or triggering the animal's behavioral problems.

That said, in-person sessions may be appropriate for animals that don't have behavioral challenges but are experiencing health problems or chronic pain.

Animal Reiki sessions are a half hour.

How should I prepare for my session and what should I do afterward?

Before your session it helps if you are hydrated, fed, and have turned your phone or other distractions off. Be sure not to drink alcohol right before a Reiki session. Otherwise, all you need to do is show up and enjoy!

Afterward, drink lots of water to help flush out any toxins that your system released. Also, it can be nice to take an Epsom salt bath or plan some quiet time after your session to allow it all to sink in. If your Reiki session IS your quiet time, you've chosen wisely. The relaxing, rejuvenating Reiki energy will stick with you throughout your day and give you a boost no matter what you are going to tackle next.

It's worth noting, sometimes big shifts stimulate a larger detoxification response in your body after your reiki session. In this case, you may experience flu-like symptoms much like after a deep tissue massage or acupuncture treatment. This is a temporary worsening of symptoms that occurs when the body is going through the process of healing itself through the elimination of toxins. This happens in the minority of my clients but is okay and a normal part of the process. Drink water, eat nutritious meals, take a salt bath and rest; take a nap or go to bed early. All this will help you to release the old and integrate the new. As they say, “Better out than in!”

How often should I return?

Reiki is beneficial when you are sick, injured, depleted, or down. It's a proven supportive modality during prolonged medical treatments, transition times, or when you are going through something that is hard on your body and mind.

It's also a natural addition to a healthy lifestyle and can be used to maintain balance for a stronger baseline so you can do whatever it is you love to do in life even better!

Depending upon your needs and goals, a single Reiki session, monthly maintenance, or weekly or bi-weekly sessions may be best to support your highest mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual health. We will discuss this at your appointment.

That said, I see clients benefit the most when they commit to their healing through a series of 3-6 sessions and that's why I offer the packages at a reduced cost :) Book here!

How do I pay and what is your cancellation policy?

I accept, cash, check, Venmo, and Paypal. All payment is expected prior to your session.

I request that you cancel within 24 hours of your scheduled appointment and then re-schedule at a time that works for you. This allows me time to offer the appointment to another person on my wait list. Cancellations within 24 hours of your scheduled appointment are free of charge. All other cancellations or no-shows result in a full charge. If you need to cancel right before your appointment due to an emergency or sudden illness, I understand that things come up and will work with you in good faith to re-schedule without a cancellation fee.

What are the COVID-19 precautions for in-person sessions?

To protect you, me and our community, I will adhere to best-practices during all in-person Reiki sessions to limit the spread of COVID-19. This means, when necessary, we will both wear masks covering our mouths and noses throughout the entire session. You will be welcome to lower your mask to drink water etc. while we maintain social distancing of six feet. Also, of course, if you have any symptoms of illness including cough, runny nose, fever, etc., please call to re-schedule your appointment. Here's to your health!
